Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP)
The most popular location for foreign immigrants entering Canada is the central province of Ontario. It is home to both Ottawa, the nation’s capital, and Toronto City, the country’s economic center. Toronto holds the title of the World’s Most Multicultural City, and the province of Ontario is known for its vibrant multiculturalism.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, or OINP, is the name given to the Provincial Nominee Program in Ontario. Through this program, Ontario offers Permanent Residence to qualified immigrant candidates, enabling them to fill labor market gaps and boost the province’s economy.
In order to meet their needs for human resources, firms in Ontario rely on OINP to facilitate the movement of abroad students and skilled, professional, and management staff. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), a federal immigration agency, and the Government of Ontario work together to administer the program.
Applicants interested in immigrating to the province must adhere to a two-step process:
- Submit a nomination request to the Ontario government;
- If the province has nominated you, submit an application for permanent residence to the Canadian federal government;
Which immigration streams fall under the purview of Ontario PNP?
Foreign nationals can apply for a Canada PR Visa through a variety of immigration channels through the Provincial Nominee Program (OINP). The purpose of Ontario PNP is to strategically draw immigrants in certain fields who will help the province, such as skilled laborers, entrepreneurs, investors, and workers in labor shortage sectors.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program oversees three immigration streams: business immigration, human capital, and employer job offers. Every stream is then divided into multiple smaller groups.
Interested parties may apply directly for an Ontario nomination through one of five routes. These comprise the two sub-streams for the Overseas Student stream and all three sub-streams for the Employer Job Offer stream.
Additionally, Ontario runs three federal Express Entry-aligned streams that target candidates who meet the necessary requirements. These include background, schooling, language proficiency, and the ability to settle down in Ontario and advance the province’s economy.
The Entrepreneur Category has a unique position among Ontario’s immigration programs because it only takes Expressions of Interest. Interested parties cannot directly apply for a nomination; instead, they must wait to be chosen and receive an invitation to apply. Yet, they are exempt from meeting the requirements of any federal immigration program and are not obliged to have a valid Express Entry profile.
Human Capital Program Ontario
The Human Capital Program in Ontario comprises multiple immigration categories that aim to attract applicants needed for the province’s workforce. These streams prioritize experience, aptitudes, or competencies that show an immigrant’s ease of integration into Ontario’s workforce. Successful immigration under one of the following categories is possible for persons with a profile in Express Entry, education or work experience in the province, and fluency in both French and English.
- Express Entry - Human Capital Priorities
- Express Entry Skilled Worker French Speaking
- Express Entry - Skilled Trades
- Graduate - Masters
- Graduate- PhD

The firm Job Offer immigration streams in Ontario are available to candidates who have received a legitimate job offer from a province-based firm. For the employment offer to be deemed legitimate, the employer and the offer must both meet certain requirements. The candidate must also meet particular requirements for eligibility depending on the stream for which they want to apply.
- Overseas Worker
- Overseas Student having a Job Offer
- Skills In-Demand
Business Immigration Program Ontario
Rich Corporations and Entrepreneurs who are interested in making significant investments for business development in the province are the target audience for Ontario’s business migration streams. In Ontario, companies and entrepreneurs that have a proven track record of success are eligible to launch new businesses. If these projects are successful, the involved applicants will be considered for a Canada Permanent Resident Visa.

Ontario PNP draws
Every month, the province of Ontario holds an OINP draw. Candidates in the Express Entry pool are periodically sent NOIs, or notifications of interest, along with an invitation to apply for nomination through one of the OINP streams that are compatible with Express Entry. Following the draws, each search’s technique and specifics are disclosed.
How long does it take to process an Ontario PNP?
OINP processing time can be divided into 2 periods:
- The length of time it takes the province of Ontario to make the nomination
- The length of time it takes the province of Ontario to make the nomination
According to the province’s current predictions, the majority of its immigration streams will take 90 to 60 days to process. Within 60 to 30 days, the Express Entry skilled trade applications are processed. The
length of time it takes to process any business immigration application is determined on its complexity.
Currently, non-Express Entry nomination applications from provinces are processed by the federal IRCC in 19 to 15 months. For the streams that are in line with Express Entry, the typical average of six months is applicable.
What prerequisites must one meet in order to apply for OINP?
Here are the compulsory Ontario PNP Requirements for the HCP stream:
Appropriate Work Experience
You must have at least a year’s worth of continuous, full-time, paid work experience. Additionally, the experience must fall into one of the skill types listed on the NOC, or National Occupation Classification List, which is B, 0 or A.
The job experience needs to have been completed within the previous five years from the date of your OINP application submission. Furthermore, the occupation needs to match the one you listed in your Express Entry profile.
Education Level
A graduate, postgraduate, or doctorate degree is required. You will additionally need to submit an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) Report if you earned your degree outside of Canada.
Proficiency in Language
It is required that you achieve a minimum of six bands in each of the four IELTS competency areas: Speaking, Listening, Writing, and Reading. It is available in both English and French.
Proof of Funds Statement
The proof of funds shows that, upon arrival and settlement in Ontario, you will have enough money to sustain yourself and any dependent family members. Statements from your bank account, mutual funds, and, if applicable, fixed deposits, can be provided.
Age
The age at which you must submit your application to Ontario must not be greater than 49.
Settlement Plan
You must include a settlement plan that demonstrates your sincere desire to relocate permanently to the province of Ontario if you submitted an application through the OINP.
What are the occupations in demand in Ontario?
All of the occupations on Ontario’s In-Demand Occupation List are in high demand within the province and are in desperate need of competent people to close labor market gaps. Through OINP, thousands of talented and skilled immigrant workers are invited each year to help address the province’s labor shortage.
Every year, the OINP Occupation in Demand list is released. This helps Ontario’s companies select eligible applicants for nomination and allows foreign workers to apply for the desired position.
How to calculate points for Ontario PNP?
In order to apply through the HCP stream, you must first meet the OINP Point criteria of 67 points and have a sufficient Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. Once you have the required minimum number of OINP points, you can build your Express Entry profile. After that, it will be added to the Express Entry Pool together with the resumes of other qualified applicants. After that, your CRS score will be determined. The provincial immigration authorities determine what is considered a minimum CRS score needed for Ontario PNP.
The OINP points calculator helps applicants for immigration to count their CRS scores, which are dependent on a number of variables like as age, work experience, education, and so on. The NOI, or Notification of Interest, will be sent to you if you are able to obtain the required number of points.
