After residing in Canada for three years, Permanent Residents may be qualified to apply for Citizenship. A number of other qualifications are also listed by Citizenship and Immigration Canada for individuals who want to apply for Canadian citizenship.
You must fulfill the qualifying standards set forth by Citizenship & Immigration Canada in order to be eligible to apply for citizenship in Canada. You have to:
- have a permanent address in Canada
- have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 5 years (1095 days)
- have filed your taxes, if needed
- show how well you know Canada
- prove your language skills (reading, writing, and speaking) in either English or French
