The Alberta PNP Program, officially known as the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), is a provincial immigration framework created to attract foreign nationals who can contribute to Alberta’s workforce and economic growth. This program allows the Government of Alberta to nominate eligible individuals for Canadian permanent residence based on provincial labour market needs.
Travia Immigration and Consultancy assists applicants in navigating the Alberta PNP Program by aligning their qualifications with provincial requirements and ensuring each stage of the application is handled accurately.
What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)?
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program is administered jointly by the Government of Alberta and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It focuses on selecting skilled workers, graduates, and business applicants who can fill employment gaps across the province.
Applicants must follow a two-stage process:
- Submit an application for provincial nomination to the Alberta government.
- After nomination, submit a permanent residence application to IRCC.
Each year, Alberta receives a fixed number of nomination slots from the federal government, making timely and accurate applications essential.
Alberta PNP Immigration Pathways
The Alberta PNP Program accepts applications under four main pathways:
- Alberta Opportunity Pathway
- Alberta Express Entry Pathway
- Farmer Self-Employed Pathway
- Overseas Graduate Entrepreneur Pathway
Each pathway is structured for a different applicant profile.
Alberta Opportunity Pathway
Introduced in June 2018, the Alberta Opportunity Pathway replaced earlier employer-driven streams. Its purpose is to simplify processing and provide equal access for qualified workers and Alberta employers.
Work Status and Residency
Applicants must hold a valid temporary resident status in Canada and authorisation to work. Eligible work permits include:
- LMIA-based work permits
- LMIA-exempt permits under international agreements or mobility programs

Individuals in removal proceedings, implied status, or working outside Alberta are not eligible.

Applicants must submit valid language test results at the time of application.
